Demographic Information of South East Saskatchewan
The covered population counts are published by Saskatchewan Health for the years of 2009 to 2011, and the Statistics Canada population counts for the years of 2011 and 2006.
The Saskatchwan Health population data comes from administrative data, namely the number of persons with valid health cards, the figures are often used as measure of the population, particularly at the individual community level, when the census figures become dated. At a regional level, the covered population counts are quite close to the population counts measured in the federal census although there are significant differences for individual communities because of the difficulties in distinguishing between the mailing address and the home address.
Statistics Canada is the Canadian federal government agency commissioned with producing statistics to help better understand Canada, its population, resources, economy, society and culture.
Statistics is a federal responsibility in Canada and Statistics Canada produces statistics for all the provinces as well as the federal government. In addition to conducting about 350 active surveys on virtually all aspects fo Canadian life, Statistics Canada undertakes a country-wide census every 5 years on the first and sixth year of each decade. By law, every houshold MUST completel the Canada Census form. As of May 2006, an internet version was made widely available, and in May 2011 it was the primary method for statistical data collection.
